In June 2024, we held a 4-day workshop at The Burn in Glenesk, Scotland. Scholars from across Europe and the US presented detailed empirical case-studies. Papers included a study of the racialization of extraterrestrials in the nineteenth century, the intersection of orientalism, racialization, and sexualized anxieties in newspaper reports about esoteric practices in the early twentieth century, and the sexual magic of neo-Gnostic guru Samael Aun Weor in the 1950s. Many of the papers will be published in our forthcoming edited volume.
